My wife and I run a tutoring and test prep business, Biltmore Tutoring, in South Buncombe County during the day. I'm also running for a seat in the NC Senate. If you're wondering what I do with my other, 'other' job, I'm a councilman in Mills River who was elected in 2017.
Recently we set priorities for the coming budget year. At our nearly eight-hour budget session on January 24, the town council confirmed that a new baseball field and parks maintenance building are in the works for this year. We’re adding electric car charging stations at town hall, and will be installing solar panels to offset electricity costs and to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and the environment.
We’re also going to be adding a newer, steeper walking trail for town residents, at property located just off Banner Farm Road. Eventually we would like to connect Mills River Brewery, Lanning Brewery, and Bold Rock Cidery to the 191 multi-use path. Pedestrian and biking paths were prioritized last year, and we will be building those in the next few years.
Other priorities include leveraging partnerships that will bring high speed internet to Mills River, and keeping the tax rate low (as a matter of fact, we just dropped the tax rate. Through careful stewardship and bipartisan actions, the town's reserve fund balance is higher than at any other point in the town's history, and in fact is more than double our annual budget commitment.
